July 31, 2012

Last day in July.....we're getting there.  My patience is starting to wear a little thin with how disorganized (all my things) have become.  I don't know where to even look for anything when I want something.  Very frustrating!  But we have had some progress in the last week.  See below.

This is the same picture I posted in the last post, but please focus on the front entry door here. (That's probably the only time you'd ever hear me say that!)

This shows the door gone and Jay getting ready for the new one.

Look at its replacement below.

Isn't it beautiful?  This wasn't even the door that we were planning for, but being that it was an unwrapped return to Weathershield, we got a very nice price on it!  What I really like is the side lite glass.  Take a look below at the swirled glass.  It's so pretty...

Today, we had some more insulation done.  Overall, it went well.

Downstairs bathroom insulated.

From the downstairs bathroom closet, viewing the heat duct area.

The future living room (southeast room) insulated.  The DeWalt tools are going to have to find a new home pretty soon.

Future office (northeast room downstairs) insulated.

East side insulated.  (This shows the other side of the fiberglass door, which we need to have finished yet.  Just another job for hubby to put on his list.)

Upstairs hallway, insulated.

Other side of hallway, insulated.  Notice how the window opening was insulated.....oops!  Jay will have to fix that one.

I think our windows for the hallway should be in sometime this week, so that's something to look forward to right now. Onto the drywall!  Who am I gonna get for this job??

July 24, 2012

It seems like it's been a long time since much has been accomplished, but we did seem to get in some windows recently.  So long old casement windows.  We both believe the double hungs that we picked out at Modern Builders and Suppliers fit the look of our home better.  See below.

This picture shows Jay working on finishing up on the right-hand side window.

Looks pretty good! (Well, the trim will be done at a later date.)

This window is the replacement window for the downstairs 3/4 bathroom.

Inside picture of this window being installed in the future home of our office.

Before picture of the window, which is in the southeast room of our home.  This will be in our new living room.

Getting everything taken out...

Without any window!

Picture showing our windows downstairs that are now in.  The entry door will be changed and the two windows upstairs will also be double window units, and we are adding in a double unit in the upstairs center.

Below is an older picture to compare.
Today, Jay jacked more floors up.  He asked me if I had a marble to test the floor out.  So I went and searched.  I knew where they were before this remodel started, but everything was moved around in so many places, I LOST MY MARBLES! ha ha, that's a funny one.  :-)  See what a remodel does to someone....they lose their marbles, like me.

July 11, 2012

Yesterday was exciting.  We now have ceiling lights in ALL bedrooms upstairs!  Great job, Mark!  It might sound odd, but late last night we just HAD to turn ALL of those lights on at the same time just for a little bit.  It was sure lit up!  Makes me think of the country song, "Every Light in the House is On", by Trace Adkins.

Now to get rid of all the old wiring up in the attic to clean it up.

As you can see below, one of our windows came in yesterday also.  This window below is the one going upstairs in the bathroom. We sure like it.

Prepping for the window.

It's looking great!

Jay took off the "stringer" (as he calls it) to the staircase, so he can replace it.

Cutting the new one.  I guess all those tools DO come in handy.  :-)

It's mid-July and he promised me by the time school starts, this will be "just about" completed.  I don't know....that's less than a month away.  We'll have to see.  It'll sure be nice not having to live in the camper anymore!  Thank goodness it's summer and we're not inside that much.  :-)

The next thing we're waiting on now is the rest of the windows for downstairs, then more insulation and drywall. After the drywall installation, things will really start to look much better.

July 9, 2012 - Part 2

As you can see from the picture below, Central Wisconsin Heating was here today.  Although, nothing with heating was done today.  All electrical (Mark Gantner) and plumbing (Chris Freund).

Downstairs bathroom doorway is framed.  Jay also framed in a closet in this bathroom too. (no pic)

Boo boo  from yesterday (wall buckling) was fixed by splinting these studs.

Light switches and outlets were installed in bathroom and laundry.

Two of the canned lights in the laundry room.

Last but not least, the kids had their ceiling lights installed today!

I took this picture of Carter's switch (Carlee has the same one).  For those not familiar, the contraption on the right is a light censored night light!  I know!!  How brilliant!  We had some of these installed in the upstairs hallway (towards the floor for walking in the dark).  I loved them so much I asked Mark about getting these in their bedrooms for their night lights.  My kids always need night lights so this was a super idea to help illuminate their room just a tad.  They give off just the right amount of light.  Bye-bye to plug in night lights.  I love Mark!

Both kids also had these lights installed in their ceiling.  Bye-bye lamps....hello MORE space!

Hope we have a busy day tomorrow too!

July 9, 2012

It's been over a week since we last posted, but we are still making progress.  Take a look.

Our shower unit for the downstairs bathroom arrived early last week.

3/4 bathroom downstairs, framed

Jay removing our front entry door to get the shower unit through.  (I think he's starting to be a pro at this job.)

Installing framing for the pedestal sink.

We have new lights and switches for the entry and hallway.  Thanks Mark!

Doesn't look like much, but SOOO nice!  When you go without, that's when you appreciate the simple things like this!

Mark Gantner hard at work.

This is our closet in the upstairs bathroom.  Jay framed a shelf towards the bottom to  cover the dryer vent.

Light switches, not quite finished yet, but they are there!  We are actually going to have ceiling lights!!  Now I'm starting to sound as old as my house!

Lights!

(Picture taken in the downstairs bathroom. ) Chris installed a heat duct for the upstairs bathroom, as you can see  in the center of the picture.  Also, as you can see, our shower unit is here! (2nd unit, that is.....Chris didn't like the first one.  Jay said he's so fussy....lol)

Additional framing under the kitchen to support the load. (You can see where the chimney used to be where the joists are cut out.)

SURPRISE!!  Wall buckled from jacking up the floor.  Guess we will be working in the kitchen after all.

Hoping this week is productive!
